All I Can Offer

A friend of mine lost some today
Several years ago today
As I lost someone a couple weeks ago
A couple weeks and several years ago.

I don't know if she still feels, as I still do,
The physical ache
The shortness of breath
Brought by the memories that come with today
Because I haven't asked
Because it aches, or I don't have the breath.

I think of her today ... and find a smile
A slow, soft, sad smile
Similar to the smile I find
When I remember the person I lost.

A friend of mine list someone today
Several years ago today
And all I can offer is a sad smile
And share a breathless aching.
